About our school
Royal Far West School (RFWS) is a School for Specific Purpose (SSP) that provides educational services to the clients of the Royal Far West's (RFW) integrated health, education and disability service. All students are from rural and remote New South Wales. Students range from 3.5 to 18 years of age.
Our classrooms are set up to meet each student’s needs. In a culturally responsive manner, we make sure students and families feel safe, respected and ready to learn in a way that suits them. Our staff are caring and skilled to help students feel confident, connected and proud of who they are.
All children are accompanied to RFW, a short stay facility, by a parent or carer. The school works in partnership with families, RFW, rural and remote schools and local services to provide information, consultancy, resource advice, professional development and program assistance. RFWS has a strong focus on building capacity in schools across the state using video conferencing and communication for individual, ongoing student support. Within RFWS, sits the Sounds, Words, Aboriginal Language and Yarning (SWAY) team.
Our vision
Royal Far West School aims to improve the quality of, and the access to, educational services of rural and remote students to learn to their fullest capability, achieve demonstrable learning and wellbeing outcomes in a safe, supportive and healthy environment.
Enrolment
Royal Far West School works in partnership with Royal Far West to support children attending for their assessment and therapy week. Each weekly cohort is determined through the RFW intake process.
Given the individualised nature of our program, our enrolment procedures are also tailored to each child’s needs. As part of our commitment to student safety and wellbeing, we make contact with every child’s current school prior to their visit. This helps us to understand each student’s strengths, interests and support needs, and to identify any potential risks in advance.
Through collaboration with Royal Far West, families and home schools, we aim to provide a smooth transition and ensure that every child feels safe, supported and ready to engage in learning during their time with us.
Medication and health management
At Royal Far West School, we understand that some children may have medical needs while attending our program. Because our school operates as a short-stay setting and parents or carers are on site, staff do not administer medication. If your child needs medication during the day, parents or carers will need to administer it.
If your child has asthma, allergies, anaphylaxis, or any other medical condition, please provide us with the necessary supporting documentation and an up-to-date health care or action plan before your visit. We follow the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) guidelines for allergy and anaphylaxis management and the NSW Department of Education’s procedures for emergency care. All staff are trained to respond to medical emergencies, including anaphylaxis, to ensure every child’s safety and wellbeing.
