Staff development - the Berry Street training model

Continual staff development is vital for our staff.  In the second of our twilight training sessions, we focused on two parts of the Berry Street training model.  This is a practical approach to teaching and learning that enables teachers to increase engagement with students with complex, unmet learning needs and successfully improve all students' self-regulation, growth and academic achievement.

Our first session concentrated on Body, how to help our students to regulate their stress response, de-escalate in school and classroom contexts, and provide strategies for increased focus.  In the second session we looked at Relationship, gaining positive relational classroom management strategies that promote on-task learning.
