Learning difficulties

At the Royal Far West School, we try to support families and communities to make the right educational choices for children.

Children with learning difficulties struggle in many areas such as reading, writing, comprehension, and numeracy.  These children may also have behavioural difficulties, autism or well-being issues that make school life a real challenge for them, their families and teachers.

The Learning Difficulties resource tab offers teachers and parents our pick of websites, teaching resources and research to support your child or student.

Websites

MultiLit is an evidence based literacy program that we at the Royal Far West recommend. It is informed by ongoing research into literacy.

What really works

What Really Works

This is the companion website for the second edition of What Really Works in Special and Inclusive Education: Using Evidence-based Teaching Strategies..

It's a good resource that offers video clips, ideas and evidence based research to support all teachers with children who require additional support.

LDC is a coalition of individuals and parent support groups which provides support and information about children (5-18yrs) with learning difficulties and related conditions.

Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation provides resources and support for parents and teachers to understand learning difficulties. A practical guide is an excellent document to support students with learning difficulties including:

  • diagnosing learning difficulties
  • recommended teaching strategies
  • selecting successful intervention programs
  • classroom accommodations
  • use of assistive technology.

SPELD are parents, teachers, tutors and professionals with a shared commitment to early identification, effective intervention and support for children and adults with specific learning difficulties, like dyslexia.

If your child struggles at school or at home with reading, writing, spelling and maths and you’re looking for support get in touch. Not all children will have a specific learning difficulty but it’s important to seek support early. If you’re looking for support start here or contact the SPELD Infoline today.

Teachers and support staff can access an array of teaching resources and professional learning aligned with the new NSW English syllabuses.
